Vintage black checkered flooring

by brae Email

During a recent excursion to Hobby Lobby for a specific scrapbook paper, I ran into these two lovely papers.

The first is called Black and Cream Diamonds by The Paper Studio.  It measures 12" x 12" and has a black and ivory checkered design.  The other is Vintage Black Checkered also by The Paper Studio.  It measures 8.5" x 11" and has more of a blue cast to the dark squares.  The squares are also slightly smaller on this paper.

I love that it has the weathering built right into the design.

I bought them both figuring the larger paper would work for a kitchen and the smaller for bathrooms or foyers.

Here is the Black and Cream Diamonds set up with the kitchen paper.  I thought it might be too much, but as both Lyssa and my boyfriend informed me...'too much' was the style of the day.  I'm more used to subtle modern design.  :D

The paper is very thin, so I plan to use spray adhesive (left over from the Old World Tile experiment I did for Baxter Pointe Villa) to attach it to a sheet of cardboard.  I'll then coat it with matte sealer (which actually has a slight sheen to it) to bring out the color and give it the look of well worn linoleum.

Thank you! :D

The broom came from Wright Guide Miniatures, bought at the recent Bishop Show.

I love those tiles with that wallpaper. And, it's true that the style of those days was too much. I can't wait to see what you do with this paper.

Nice to see that something of worth can be found at the Hobby Lobby. I haven't had too much success. That scrapbook paper looks great as a kitchen floor ... perfect, actually :-)

I love how it looks together! I think I have some of these papers myself. I also liked that they had some weathering to it. I bought it, but didn't and still don't have my mind made up of where I'll use it.....lol. =)

I love the black and white flooring, such a classic combination and the paper was a good idea.

It looks wonderful with the wall paper. :)
