Totally wired!
by brae
Well, the first floor has been totally wired, that is. And, the ceiling has been permanently attached to the first floor. There are still a lot of details left to be done on the first floor, but I want to continue with the build so I can begin work on the second floor.
I had to reapply the wallpaper in the living room since the summer humidity buckled the paper. I had used double-sided tape instead of the Yes paste I had used in the other rooms. The reason for this was to have ease of access to the wiring if needed, so now with the wallpaper up with Yes paste instead, there would be considerable work involved in accessing the wiring. So much so that we might just live with a permanently dark light! :D
Though I had patched the stair hole successfully with wood, the outline was still visible after spackling and painting. The study ceiling was also in poor shape due to the quality of the plywood. So, I used drawing paper to cover the ceilings in both the living room and study. The painted kitchen ceiling turned out quite nicely so I left it as is.
Here's the paper cut out for the living room.

And attached with Yes paste.

In a previous post, I showed the channels I cut for the wiring. Here is the top of the board with the wiring in place and tape keeping it all in order.
All the ceiling wiring makes its way down the living room wall.

The chimney breast hides the wires.

It looks a bit of a mess coming out of the holes in the foundation, but each light (or set of lights) is labeled and I can plug in what I want at any given time. That was my whole reason for choosing hard wire in the first place.
And, here is the Mackintosh light in all its glory! :D I am so glad this fixture worked out...I just love it!
