Thrifting in mini

by brae Email

I've officially decided I love House of Miniatures kits!  :D  If you finish an antique piece in a more modern color scheme and update the hardware, you end up with something that works well in a contemporary setting.  It's like thrifting in mini!

Here's the box image for the master bedroom dresser.  Very traditional.

And, here is the kit after finishing.  I used black paint followed by a satin varnish and wooden knobs painted silver for the hardware.  The flowers are part of the Bonnie Lavish dahlias I made last week.

A perfect match for the Daisy House bed I built previously.

I laughed when I say your posting! I just tonight finished a HOM kit for a desk and will be posting it tomorrow :) I love these kits and I'm going to start haunting all the craigslist/ebay sources I can find. Can you believe these used to be sold as a kit-of-the-month club? I wish they'd start again!

Brae, I have a dozen or so HoM Kits that I bought at my favorite antique mall for very little. You are making me feel guilty for not doing them. Love what you did with the chest of drawers. I am partial to black anyway. Looks really good.

Since we all love them, I hope we don't all start outbidding each other on eBay! :))

Hey, ladies. There's someone on CraigsList selling a bunch of these really inexpensively. Check Craigslist for the Atlanta area and do a search for dollhouse.
