Landscaping materials
by brae
Even though I don't have one wall glued onto the foundation, I've been planning the landscaping. :D A member of the Greenleaf dollhouse forum mentioned Heki grass mats, so I did a bit of sleuthing around the internet. I found a number of suppliers in the UK and finally found one in the U.S.: Scenery Express. I ended up with a number of materials from them, all of which should work very well in 1:12 scale.
The first is Savannah TuftGrass by Heki. It's a mat with low and high grasses in variegated coloration. I went with the more dried out, late autumn colors. It's pricey, but the look is spot on in scale for a poorly kept lawn with some overgrown and dying spots in the grass.
I bought two 6" x 17" sheets but probably will need to pick up one or two more. I'll be figuring out the baseboard for the house soon and can determine exactly what I need after that.
Next are the Extra Long Autumn Tufts "Silflorettes" by MiniNatur. They are little clumps of grass material that you apply individually. The autumn tones coordinate perfectly with the grass mat, so I can use these around fence posts and between the walkway pavers, or sticking out of the stone steps.
For a bit of non-grass vegetation, I have the Autumn Tone Goldenrod Weeds "Silflorettes" also by MiniNatur. These come all webbed together, and you cut the stalks off the web to apply individually.
These are obviously not in-scale goldenrod stalks for 1:12 scale, but they do look like dried out flowering plants. I think they'll look marvelous scattered in the yard and next to the brick foundation. Just marvelous! :D
And, rounding out the materials from Scenery Express are some Fall Mixed Wire Foliage Branches by JTT Scenery Products. These are meant to be standalone trees in smaller scales, but I plan to use them to build a full size tree. That should be fun, messy and interesting. :D
I already have in my stash two Woodland Scenics products: Coarse Turf, Yellow Grass.

And, Fine Turf, Burnt Grass.

I also have some MBS Fine Foliage / Turf, Dark Earth.

This will be my first time creating a landscape with full vegetation. For Baslow Ranch, it was a desert landscape, and for Baxter Pointe Villa, I made beachfront property.

All of the landscaping is divine! You photograph it so much better than the website.
Hugs
I'm especially interested in what you do to the stairs...the gaps in the stones are crying out for growth. Are you going to use the green fine foliage to make the concrete toppers mossy?
