House of Miniatures Chippendale Desk

by brae

I have my final layout for furnishings figured out, and I need a desk!  :D  I'm working with a House of Miniatures Chippendale Desk kit.

I built the desk without modification and painted it black to start.   I sanded the finish smooth and then planned to add two coats of a lighter color, sanding to pull the black through in areas.  But, now I'm torn.  I love the distressed finish!  :O

I could seal it as is to deepen the black and preserve the rustic look.  I think for now I will leave it and decide later.  :]

By the way, I have a project in progress on the sewing portion of my blog if you'd like to see what else I do to stay in the creative spirit.  :]

Love the distressed look. Gives it quite a different look. A more 'relaxed' piece of furniture.

Nooit eraan gedacht om op deze manier de mebels van The Hosue of Mininatures te bewerken. Mooi geworden. Groetjes Thea

I can see why you're having a tough time changing it, it does look great as is :)

This is my personal opinion. Well, I guess I am the odd-man-out here. I don't like the black--I don't mind distressed, though. I like wood as "wood" if that makes sense. Cheers, Iris

What a beautiful distressed finished ! I love it, it looks very natural and well done. The black looks perfect like this ! (I would keep it like this, obviously !)

Hi Brae! I have to admit I'm curious what it would look like painting it as you originally planned :-) I love what you are making on your other blog and can't wait to see your hat! Hope you still get to use your spinach :-0 Susan

Thank you! :D I do have another one of these kits. I can always revisit the original plan on that kit. And, the spinach is still good! :))

I Love it in black, Brae! But I like dark furniture... I painted my own RL hutch in black! I know light furniture colors are fashionable... but I think they look a bit unnatural... Of course it would be fun to see what it looks like with your original idea on the other kit...! And ultimately it depends a lot on what other pieces and colors you will be using with it. Your sewing project is Awesome! What fun to have a dress-up party to look forward to!
