Bespaq bed makeover, completed

by brae

The Bespaq bed makeover is done!

I sewed some pillows and made pillowcases from the same sheer white floral fabric as the sheets.  I added one small white printed floral pillow to complete the bedding.  It has a tiny venise lace flower attached in the corner.

I made a small lace throw from some open weave fabric.  It is full sized to cover the entire bed when opened, but I've pressed it flat to sit at the end of the bed as an extra blanket for those chilly autumn evenings.  :]

Hooray for a successful makeover!  :D

This is where the bed started.

Then primed and painted with Krylon Almond in satin finish.

Then aged by sanding.

I cut new foam core board pieces to replace the original mattress.

I added bedding including a coverlet made from fabric April sent to me.

Now, who wants to take a cat nap?!  :D

I would never have known this pretty bed was originally a mass-produced, mahogany-finished piece! I'd take you up on that cat nap if I were 5" tall...

Love that lacy throw at the foot of the bed. Gorgeous bed, who wouldn't want to sleep there?!

So you just prime right over the original finish? I have tried this kind of thing, but always wondered if I should be removing or at least scuffing the original finish first. I just love watching your progress - you are so meticulous!

Great makeover! I love the contrast of the light furniture with the dark walls.

Thank you!! :>> I didn't sand before priming because of the intricate detail work. I also used a high quality Krylon spray primer. The finish is durable.

Hi Brae! I love the way that you have finished the bed and the bed dressing is Perfect! I think that the fabric pattern is a really good choice as it carries the ground color of the bed and the floral is bigger and more commanding than that which is on the chairs and painted on the furniture. Everything is looking really nice and very comfy! elizabeth
