Bagnall tall case clock, part 1

by brae Email

I am a huge fan of House of Miniatures kits because they can become anything you want - traditional or modern.  I stumbled upon the Bagnall clock when I was searching for other House of Miniatures kits and started stalking eBay for a good price.  This is a more difficult kit to find.

The assembly is more challenging than other House of Miniatures kits I've put together, but I am taking my time and using Minwax wood filler to smooth any rough edges and mask the seams.  So far so good.

I knew it would be perfect for the Haunted Heritage, but I couldn't wait to put it in the parlor just to check the size and positioning.  The stained finish will be darker than the natural wood shown here, but I think it will brighten the far corner in this dark-walled room.

It might be a shame to stick it in the corner between the fireplace and The Chair, but I can just imagine hearing the gentle clicks and whirrs of a clock in this room.  My grandparents had clocks in their house, and I loved when it was quiet and all you could hear were the subtle sounds of the various clock movements.

You just sent me back to memory lane... I have fond memories of being in my grandparents lounge too and hearing their old mantle clock ticking away and chiming on the hour. I look forward to seeing your finished clock.

Have you thought of drilling out the face and using a real watch, I'm saving for a clock from Halls, they have the best in my mind. www.hallsminiatureclocks.com
Love how it's coming along

It really is a warm memory, isn't it? :D

I did think about using a working mechanism but decided to make the clock as is since I like the kit so much. The detailed face included has separate hands so it will look wonderful. I do have a working Reutter Porzellan working mantel clock, and you are right - Halls clocks are amazing.

I have a grandfather clock kit by Greenleaf. It's part of a room kit. I haven't made it yet. I think that seeing you build a clock kit will probably encourage me to build mine.

Well, I went down memory lane also. All of a sudden I could hear my grandmother's mantle clock ticking in the middle of the quiet night, sigh ...

That kit was a good find. I never saw that one before. I bought a number of House of Miniatures kits, but put together only one. (I must do more).

Watching you work is inspiring. That room is so wonderful.

Enjoy your day.

This is a perfect addition to this room Brae, Call me old fashioned but i still retain a large clock in my lounge and sitting down at night with a log fire reading a book listening to the ticking in the background is a perfect way to relax.

It looks so good in the corner there! I have a tiny human size version of a grandfather clock. It's table top sized I guess, since it sits on the end table. Every once in awhile, I like to sit out in the recliner and read and the only thing I can hear is the ticking of that clock and the dribble of the water filter from the turtle tank. So nice.

These look like very well made kits. I have not seen them before I am off to do some hunting!

I have a few HoM kits waiting to be made (for the right project). I am always intrigued to see folks post about putting them together. :) Very inspiring! I think your clock would look lovely in that room!
