New minis!

by brae Email

The holidays have really messed up my mini routine!  :D  But, the break also makes for renewed enthusiasm when the routine starts again.  In the meantime, I have acquired a few wonderful items in the past couple of months that I thought I would share wi… more »

Lilje chairs - need color advice please

by brae Email

The Lilje chairs I built from the Art of Mini kit are wonderful, but some gaps show due to the way they are assembled from parts.  I added a bit of spackling to minimize the appearance of some of these gaps and sanded smooth before painting. I pai… more »

Lilje chairs kit from Art of Mini

by brae Email

After moving the too-small Chrysnbon chairs to the bedroom, I needed another pair of chairs for the kitchen.  Many people have raved about Art of Mini, so I had a look at their wonderful online offerings.  So many beautiful furniture kits!  I wish I cou… more »

Kitchen ceiling finishing

by brae Email

The kitchen ceiling board also finishes the front bay window, but it has a lot of imperfections.  First, I had left the original stairs components intact to keep the board whole.  I had replaced these stairs with Houseworks narrow stairs in the middle o… more »

Bespaq bed makeover and bedroom layout

by brae Email

It's fun to take a piece of unfinished furniture and spruce it up just so.  It's even good to take a relatively inexpensive piece and change it, even paint it, to make it fit into a scene better.  But, I feel as though I am going to get a collective GAS… more »

Navajo rug - a few hours in

by brae Email

I've been busy with real life and have had only a small bit of time for minis, which I've spent on the Navajo rug. This is a scant 5.75 hours worth of work.  I am thinking I should be done by...July 2012.  Hahahaha. more »

Navajo rug - restart

by brae Email

Hmm...I wonder how many of you noticed my pattern error in the last update.  :O  Since I had so little done on it, I decided to restart on another piece of the fabric instead of ripping out the stitches. Hmm...looks like a triangle doing a little dance… more »

Fancy parlor flooring

by brae Email

When doing wood flooring in miniature, I love using pre-made wood sheets.  They are quick and easy to use, which to me makes up for their cost.  I also think they look wonderful once finished and installed. For the parlor, I wanted to make a fancier fl… more »

Kitchen ceiling

by brae Email

As mentioned before, the kitchen ceiling will be lower than the parlor ceiling, which I had to raise to accommodate the new front door and the narrow stairs.  The ceiling board that came with the kit is made of three different die cut pieces that you as… more »

Navajo rug cross-stitch project - the beginning

by brae Email

I have no idea if this rug will end up in the Heritage in the end since there are two other houses in the wings now that it might work well for, but I am eager to work on this project in my "off" time over the winter.  I'm using 32ct Joblean in parchmen… more »

Golden Gate View

by brae Email

Even though I recently acquired a Glencroft kit to follow the Heritage build, I recently stumbled across an old (albeit new in the box) kit no longer made: Golden Gate View by American Craft Products.  I could not pass it up for its unusual design, its… more »

Musical chairs

by brae Email

Sometimes, miniature furniture seems to have a mind of its own.  I might have perfect plans for a pair of chairs for instance, but in the end things go awry and they don't work.  I had two Chrysnbon Victorian chairs from a miniature furniture lot I boug… more »

Interior decorating has begun!

by brae Email

I started pasting the wallpaper in the front bay window as well as the newly installed kitchen side wall. With the bay window paper in place, I was able to start gluing in the window trim.  I used the same super glue trick installing the trim - just a f… more »

The Glencroft

by brae Email

No, I haven't even opened the box, but I thought I would share my initial inspirations with you.  These will have time to finalize over the next year while I continue working on the Heritage and the Newport.  :D I plan to flip the kit in the opposite d… more »

Kitchen wall, flooring and more books

by brae Email

I've been busily sewing a dress for an upcoming holiday party, so mini work has been sparse this week.  I did install one of the last two outer walls - the one on the side of the kitchen.  I used a trick I learned on the Greenleaf forum of putting a cou… more »

Filled bookcase!

by brae Email

The bookcase has been filled with books!  :D There are 79 in total, arranged in random order. They range in thickness from 1/64" to 3/16" and from 1/2" to 3/4" in height.  I think the variation in sizes, colors and design gives them that extra pus… more »

Books - a few of my favorite covers

by brae Email

Another nine books for the shelf.  Now there are fifty-four on the bookshelf. I always judge my mini books solely by the covers, though I do occasionally add books that I like for their content in real life.  As I was making up books, I figured I'd s… more »

Navajo rug - a new petitpoint project

by brae Email

Natalia at Scarlet Sails Miniatures recently stitched a gorgeous Navajo design on 40ct silk gauze.  I had been thinking of making a rug for the Heritage, but I wasn't sure of the direction until I saw her beautiful work. I am one quarter Navajo, though… more »

Coffee table and a birdbath

by brae Email

The Chair, The Sofa, the fireplace and the bookcase are such statement pieces in the parlor, as well as the fancy stairs, that I needed an equally expressive coffee table.  I bought a closeout Bespaq Eddington Walnut coffee table for its lines though th… more »
