1920s wicker furniture book

by brae Email

The second story of the Newport dollhouse has a conservatory, and I wanted some wicker furniture for it.  I did the usual Google search for ideas and ran across a blog entry from Casey's Minis.  more »

Needlepoint in miniature and my first book

by brae Email

Since I started the Newport, I've been checking out books from the library to find ideas for projects and to generally drool over all of the beautiful minis out there.  One of the better books I found was Embroidered Projects by Sue Hawkins.  It has rugs… more »

Dining floor

by brae Email

Since the Greenleaf tiles I used in the kitchen area were thicker than the Handley House wood flooring I planned to use for the dining room, I had to start with a cardboard template to even out the difference.   more »

Kitchen floor

by brae Email

I liked the look of the dark wood flooring by Handley House and it is super easy to install since it comes on a paper backing, but I wanted to give something else a try before going ahead with the wood floor.  I think travertine tile floors look beautifu… more »

Divan and tray

by brae Email

I had no idea what a divan was, but when I saw one in Dolls' House Furniture: Easy-to-make projects in 1/12 scale by Freida Gray I knew I had to have one.  :D I opted for the same fabric that I used for the entryway chair.  I used the instructions as a… more »

Entryway progress

by brae Email

This photo from Real Simple served as my inspiration for the entryway. For the chair, I updated a mahogany and red velvet chair from Concord Miniatures.  This was part of the box of minis my friend gave to me when he helped me cut my garage panels.… more »

Living room and entryway

by brae Email

The final first floor room....  Though, that is not to say the rest of the first floor is done by any means.  :D The inspiration for the colors in this room came from a trip to the local Sheraton.  Now, don't go getting the wrong idea!  It was a tour g… more »

Porch soffit

by brae Email

With the second floor lined up on top of the first floor, I marked the outline of the porch soffit with a pencil. I wanted to finish it before permanently attaching the second floor so I wouldn't have to work upside down. Since I had added a piece of p… more »

Scratch built sofa

by brae Email

I borrowed Dollhouse Magic by P. K. Roche from the local library, and it turned out to be a rather simplistic book of miniature making, such as using thread spools for tables.  But, her instructions on using kitchen sponges to make sofas and chairs inspi… more »

First floor update

by brae Email

The first floor is really starting to take shape.  This is pretty much how it will look, plus the front porch railings and posts and the trim above the garage which I don't have up here. click image to enlarge As for the interior, that's still in the… more »

Scratch built kitchen pendant lamps

by brae Email

I plan to put in can lights in the ceiling since this is a deep room that will be dark once the ceiling is permanently attached, but I still wanted some sort of fixtures over the island and the dining table.  I have a chandelier for the dining area but c… more »

Look who wandered over to the Newport...my first resident.  :D  He hasn't told me his name yet. more »

Living room

by brae Email

Work on the final first floor room begins, though that is not to say the rest of the first floor is done by any means.  :D I created the chimney breast and firebox in a similar manner as I had for the study.  It was a much easier and faster process thi… more »

Powder room lighting

by brae Email

When I renovated my childhood dollhouse for my young cousin, I removed all but one of the light fixtures.  One was old and worn, and the other was my favorite: a small red and white polka dot wall sconce.  It, too, shows its age, but I still think it's g… more »

Front porch progress

by brae Email

I originally planned to use the posts that came with the Newport kit but decided after seeing the railing and newel posts in place on top of the garage to go with something more fluid and curved.  The original pieces that came with the Newport kit were t… more »
