Kitchen progress, part 3

I put one more coat of red paint on the cabinets and finished them with satin sealer.  I like satin better than gloss for furniture since it gives a nice sheen but doesn't show all the imperfections that gloss finishes can.

The hardware for the cabinets consists of unfinished wood knobs and antique brass metal handles.  I painted them silver and then brushed on a bit of gloss finish to give them a more modern feel.

The handles are glued on, but the knobs needed pilot holes, which I made with an awl.  I stabbed myself in the finger (yikes!) and split one of the drawers.  A little wood glue and a new coat of paint, and you can't tell the difference.  Oh, and a Band-Aid for my finger.

Here is the finished island cabinet.

The kitchen still needs a lot of work, but I took out some of the minis I've acquired and did a quick setup in the kitchen.  :D

Now that the gloss finish has had a chance to cure, the countertops look less like Formica and more like the granite I set out to recreate.
